About the Box Art

“Daggers Drawn” by David Pentland

Fanning Head, Falkland Islands

13.00 Hours, 21 May 1982

The custom box art entitled Daggers Drawn, was specially commissioned by OrBat Solutions. The thoroughly-researched cover image was painted by the talented David Pentland, a renowned military history artist.

The image depicts the “Argentine Mirage V Daggers of Grupo 6 de Caza, Rio Grande ‘Wild Bustards’ Squadron, attacking Royal Navy picket ships in Falklands Sound defending the British landings in San Carlos Bay. Two flights ‘Nandu’ led by Captain Janett (in foreground), and ‘Perro’ of three aircraft each, attacked HMS Broadsword, (also in foreground) Argonaut and Antrim. The latter, HMS Antrim, sustained serious damage with an unexploded 1000lb bomb lodged below deck, while the others escaped with light damage. In contrast, Gruppo 6 lost one of their number, (Lt Bean), probably to a Seawolf missile.”

REVIEWS

“At Storm’s Edge stands as a compelling example of modern wargame design, offering an insightful journey in the often-overlooked Falklands War. Tim Barrick’s design demonstrates how wargames can simultaneously educate and entertain, balancing historical accuracy with engaging game-play mechanics. The game’s innovative systems uniquely capture the complexities of the 1982 conflict.

“What sets this wargame apart is how it transforms historical lessons into relevant insights for contemporary military challenges. The game’s treatment of amphibious operations, air-naval integration, and long-distance logistics is strikingly pertinent to today’s Indo-Pacific scenarios. Barrick’s firsthand military experience and extensive research shine through in the precise order of battle and the detailed attention paid to realistic decision-making in the face of uncertainty.”
